Plantronics Headsets - Plantronics CS60 v C65 Review
Which Wireless Headset - Plantronics CS60 or C65?
Choosing which wireless headset to purchase for the office can be a really difficult process, even for an experienced user. There are, however, two headsets I’d recommend - the Plantronics CS60 and the Plantronics C65. But what’s the difference?
Well it is all to do with the type of telephone you’re actually going to be using the headset with. The Plantronics C65 headset is designed to work with a cordless phone, so comes with just a charger. With the Plantronics CS60 headset designed to work with a normal corded desk phone, meaning that not only does it have a charger, but a wirless transmitter in its base as well.
Bluetooth Headsets
If you’re like me and always seem to get a call on your mobile phone at the most inopportune of times, when you’re driving or at the checkout of the supermarket for example, and don’t have time to stop and drop everything (literally) to chat, then it sounds like you need to free up your hands and simplify your life with a Bluetooth headset.
Bluetooth headsets will work with any mobile phone that is Bluetooth enabled, with some current models having the ability to pair with more than one item, for example, a mobile phone and another Bluetooth enabled device like a laptop. The Plantronics Voyager 510 is a good example of this.
Sony Ericsson Announce Female Bluetooth Headset

The new Sony Ericsson Bluetooth Headset HBH-PV712 is lightweight, stylish and very comfortable to wear. Sony Ericsson are presenting this headset as their ‘female Bluetooth Headset’ - whatever that means? According to Sony Ericsson’s press release, the HBH-PV712 Style Edition headset is their ‘female’ headset because it’s “every woman’s must-have handbag accessory.” In this modern world of equality, I really hope they know what they’re saying! The point is actually well made though, trying to find an item in a crowded handbag is actually quite hard - so I’m told. Sony Ericsson has developed a stylish accessory that’s aimed at helping you get organised – welcome to the Sony Ericsson Bluetooth Headset HBH-PV712 Style Edition.
Gadget Glossary
I was planning on writing a Gadget Glossary but recently found the following Headset & Phone Glossary. It covers all aspects of Headsets, Telephones, Conferencing Equipment, Two-Way Radios, Fax Machines and Printers.
Bluetooth Headset Buyer’s Guide
Bluetooth headsets are pretty much an essential item these days. Like all wireless headsets, the benefits of increased mobility are far greater than the low cost factor of corded headsets.
Now that the law has changed - and prison sentences are a possibility - driving without using a mobile phone headset is lunacy. Whilst we don’t recommend using a mobile phone when driving, using a headset is currently allowed in the UK.
King Bluetooth
Bluetooth technology was developed by Ericsson way back in 1994 but it has only recently become mainstream, driven by necessity and falling prices. However, many consumers are still learning about bluetooth technology and its benefits.
The Bluetooth name actually comes from a 10th century Danish King - Harald Bluetooth, who reigned from 940 to 985. King Bluetooth is credited with unifying Denmark and bringing order to the country. The symbolic nature of this is what led Ericsson to use the Bluetooth name.
What is VoIP?
VoIP – Are The Best Things In Life Free?
VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol. Put simply it works by compressing sound into digital packets which are transmitted over the internet – cutting out traditional telephony systems and charges. VoIP isn’t a new idea. The first Internet voice transmission occurred in 1973 but it wasn’t until after 2000 that it began to be adopted on a wider scale. Since then it’s growth has been significant, mainly driven by the massive parallel growth of broadband which is better equipped to deal with high speed data transmission.
Skype
Both software and hardware applications can be used to harness VoIP. The best known software is the free Skype download which enables - with the use of compatible handsets, headsets or microphones - free communication with fellow Skype users. The likes of Skype make their money via paid-for dial in services to landlines and mobiles, although even then charges tend to be much lower than standard call packages.
VoIP technology really does excite as users - both private and business - can not only offer multi-point access but remove their reliance on a telephony provider. How? By fully utilising their broadband capabilities. You don’t pay a charge every time you email a data packet such as a Word document so why should you for a voice packet? If you think of it as owning your own line the attraction is clear. But is VoIP free? Yes and no. A broadband connection still needs paying for but clearly effective use of its capacity can help users better manage and minimise their telephone costs, especially for international telephone calls.
