Garmin have announced the launch of the Forerunner 405CX, which is the latest in Garmin’s range of GPS-enabled fitness devices.

Based on the Garmin Garmin Forerunner 405, the 405CX offers runners, cyclists and hill walkers a way of measuring their heart rate and calorie consumption. The Forerunner 405CX will be launched at the forthcoming Paris and Boston marathons.

“As today’s runners evolve, so must their technology. Once again Garmin leads the way with our smartest Forerunner yet,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin’s vice president of worldwide sales. “Refined data traditionally reserved for elite athletes and top-tier trainers is now available to anyone interested in accurately counting calories and tracking their progress, all through a stylish and comfortable fitness watch.”

Garmin Forerunner 405CX Review

The Forerunner 405CX uses complex calculations to deliver highly accurate results. Whether on a bike, walking or running, the Forerunner 405CX gives users data that they can use to monitor their performance. Garmin claim that the 405CX is more comfortable than previous models due to the choice of two form-fitting bands and it’s lightweight, which at just 60 grams sounds quite good.

Garmin developed the Forerunner 405CX inconjunction with top athletes and Finnish technology company, Firstbeat Technologies Ltd., who are a leading heart rate analysis company.

The Forerunner 405CX tracks speed, distance and location. Garmin have applied for a patent to protect their touch bezel on the face of the watch which they claim makes navigating the options easier than ever. New sessions are started by the user simply tapping the screen or by running a finger along the bezel.

User data is displayed with clarity and you can easily access training history. The Forerunner 405CX allows you to train with a Virtual Partner for those looking for an element of competition, and to make it even more of a challenge, you can adjust the Virtual Partner’s pace without stopping in the middle of a workout.

The Forerunner 405CX is water-resistant, IPX7, and can thereefore be used in the rain. It also comes with the option of a foot pod that can fit on laces or under certain shoes’ insoles.

The GPS receiver, when combined with HotFix™, informs users of location and an optional speed sensor helps cyclists monitor their pedaling cadence and wheel speed.

Garmin Forerunner 405CX Additional Features

After all your hard work, you’ll want to judge your performance, afterall, what’s the point of buying a heart-rate monitor unless you monitor it.

The Forerunner 405CX transmits data to your computer – PC, Laptop or Mac – using wireless data transfer, so no need for cables. Even better than that, the 405CX will automatically sync when you are close enough to your PC so you can sit and catch your breathe whilst the data syncs.

As you’d expect, users can set personal targets and goals and the 405CX will monitor your performance against these.
