Cheap PS3 and Xbox Consoles
Our friends over at Ars Technica are reporting that they have a friendly mole who’s rather chatty at the moment. The mole is apparently credible, having previously given advance notice on several key industry secrets.
The key news is that cheap PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles are on their way this Autumn. The mole suggests that the 160GB PS3 console will replace the 80GB version before the PS3 Slim in released.
On the Xbox side, the Elite is to replace the Pro as prices drop and Microsoft release cheap Xbox consoles just in time for the Christmas gifts rush.
To offset some of these price drops, both Sony and Microsoft will be releasing new bundles.
Cheap Sony PS3 Consoles
So what’s the plan? Retailers have around two months worth of stocks of the 80GB, after that they won’t re-stock this model. That pushes customers onto the 160GB console. If they sell-thru at the same rate, this then allows Sony to release the PS3 Slim console just in time for Christmas.
Whilst there is no detail on how cheap these consoles will be or at what price the PS3 Slim will be released at, it’s good to hear prices are to fall and that the PS3 Slim is still planned for this year.
Cheap Xbox 360
The Xbox 360 Pro is expected to sell-thru this summer – with the help of some great offers, perhaps cheap bundles including top games like Halo 3 and Fable 2.
Should we be concerned at the loss of the Xbox 360 Pro console. In a word, no. The Elite console, with the 120GB hard drive, will effectively become the Pro-level model. Tactically, it is likely that Microsoft will follow-up the first cheap bundle with another, probably around Oct. Microsoft will also have to combat the launch of the Sony PS3 Slim and so it’s likely to be a great Christmas for those looking for cheap Xbox 360 consoles.
