Sony PSP Go Console

Leaked images and specs emerged on the new Sony PSP Go Console ahead of the official announcement at this year’s E3 Expo. But that did not dampen the enthusiasm that gamers gave to the launch of the new console.
The PSP Go will go on-sale on 1st October 2009.
The new console features 16GB of internal memory to compensate for the loss of the UMD disc drive. Content will now have to be downloaded rather than bought on disc. The PSP Go will include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and a Micro M2 memory slot which enables memory expansion by 2GB, 4GB, 8GB or 16GB – the latter effectively doubling the storage capacity.
PSP Go Console Specifications
- 3.8-inch display (resolution unknown)
- 43 percent lighter than the original PSP console
- 16GB of Flash storage
- Bluetooth built-in
- No UMD drive

Previous PSP Go News
Hot rumours this week on the new Sony PSP 4000 surround the potential name of the new PSP.
Stories are circulating that one site with strong ties to the Sony Corporation, uploaded a podcast which made reference to the fact that they had seen the new PSP. In fact, in truth, they were bragging that they had seen the new PSP.
They also stated that the actual name of the new portable playstation device is the Sony PSP GO, or Sony PSP Go! to be precise, rather than the PSP 4000. The name has some credibility when you consider that Sony already have a service called Go!View.
The Sony PSP GO is believed to have a larger screen than the current PSP 3000 and slide-out controls.
Sony are believed to have plans to launch the PSP GO at this year’s E3 conference in June.
When launched, the PSP GO is expected to have lost it’s UMD drive, and as such the current format for playing PSP games will change quite dramatically. Instead of opening the back and slotting in a hard disc, the PSP GO is expected to use games that have been downloaded. One assumes therefore that there will be some form of Wi-Fi functionality.
The PSP Go is also expected to come in two formats, perhaps 8GB and 16GB of flash memory, or even a 32GB version?
Given the spec of the new Nintendo DSi, you can also expect the PSP GO to have a Camera. Sony would fail if they did not add this feature.
Screen size is likely to be around the same as the current PSP 3000 but rumours are suggesting it could be touch-screen.
Sony got quite upset at the rumours and were quoted as saying;
“We don’t comment on rumors and have made no such announcements. It’s a shame that a little speculation on their part gets so much attention.”– Patrick Seybold, senior director of corporate communications and social media for Sony Computer Entertainment America.
If you benchmark the story with past experience from these sources, there seems to be a lot of credibility and as such we’re in the ‘we believe them’ camp. So, roll-on E3 in June when we get to find out for sure.
