trueCall Call Blocker

trueCall – as seen on Dragon’s Den

Demand for the trueCall nuisance phone call blocker has soared in recent months. This is primarily driven by their successful appearance on the new series of Dragon’s Den.

Peter Jones, of Dragon’s Den fame said in a recent T3 article (26th Jun 2009), that the trueCall is his favourite gadget. He was quoted as saying the following in return to a question about what his favourite gadget is;

“.. a gadget from Dragon’s Den called trueCall. It links into the phone system and filters out useless phone calls.”

The trueCall device stops all unwanted nuisance calls, from whatever source you choose, including telemarketing, sales calls, silent calls, fax machine calls, market researchers, malicious phone calls, wrong numbers, pre-recorded message calls etc.

The trueCall call blocker is about the size of a paperback book and it simply plugs into your home phone line. It works by checking each and every call you receive before letting your phone ring, and as such, blocks all unwanted calls.

The TrueCall device was invented by two British inventors and acts as a filter between your telephone and the person making the call. Its aim is to filter out unwanted calls and just let through those calls that you are happy to receive.

From our research, we estimate that there are around 1.5 billion silent calls and 1.5 million malicious calls each year. Yes, you did read that correctly .. 1.5 billion and 1.5 million .. which unsurprisingly affects more than two-in-three of us.

A huge amount of these calls include phone scams. One of the most common types of phone scams attempts to get the call receiver to call a premium rate phone line, another scam tries to obtain personal data over the phone. Both rely on the crook speaking to a person, so the trueCall device helps by stopping these calls getting through.

“TrueCall is designed to give people control of their landlines,” said Mr Price. “You can bolt the door and close the curtains but your landline is the weak link in your privacy,” he said.

The trueCall device simply intercepts all calls. If it recognises them as a friend or a member of the user’s agreed phone list, it lets the call through. If the caller’s number is on a no entry list, the trueCall device answers it with an automated message, and the phone does not ring. It also stores the number to ensure no other calls from that number get through, ever!

If trueCall doesn’t recognise the caller’s number, or the caller withholds their number, the device asks them who they are, puts them on hold and then rings the user’s phone. You then have the option to accept or decline the call.

The trueCall inventors have plans to allow users to download a list of blacklisted numbers from a central database, which can be dialled into via a modem inside the box.

The trueCall device is available from the inventor’s website for £97.50 but the following table shows much cheaper prices:
