Samsung PS50B650 50-inch plasma TV

Samsung have not offered us many new TVs this year so the first of their new range has been waited for a while now.

The Samsung PS50B650 is the first of their 2009 50-inch Plasma TV range and on first sight it looks good.

The PS50B650 – what a rubbish name – is a 50in screen but it feels bigger. One of the first things you notice is the tv edge. The current fashion is to make them smaller and thinner but the PS50B650 has at least an inch or two wide surround, and it looks good for it.

We’re big fans of Samsung so we always look forward to the next new thing from them. With the PS50B650 Samsung have included four HDMI inputs and perhaps surprisingly, two USB inputs.

Samsung say the idea of the two USB sockets is to allow users to add an external hard drive, for playback of various multimedia file, or adding an optional WiFi dongle to allow you to link your PS50B650 to your broadband router using wireless connectivity. This then allows you to use Samsung’s new Medi@2.0 online service.

I bought a 50 inch plasma Samsung TV (PS50Q97HD) 1 year and 10 months ago. It broke the other day and will no longer turn on. It makes a clicking noise when on at the mains and there is no picture or sound. When I got in contact with Samsung I was disgusted with their customer service. Because the TV was purchased over a year ago they refuse to assist in any way in terms of repair or replacement. They do not think that one of their £1000 TVs breaking less than 2 yrs after purchase is wrong. They have been useless and I’m pleased to say that my company was about to purchse 26 Samsung TVs (at various sizes from 26-50 inches) for use throughout the building and I have advised the boss to change to LG which he was happy to do. I will never deal personally or professionally with Samsung ever again and I strongly advise people to go with other reputable companies for their electrical goods.

Louise, you obviously don’t live in the real world. I would be extremely surprised if any TV manufacturer would have blindly honoured any type of warrantly claim when it was well past the warranty period. If your company has switched to LG, you will soon find that things are going to get worse for you rather than better. It is universally known that LG TV’s are cheaper for a reason.
